The great guides at Inle care about the future of the lake as much as they care about your experience when you visit the lake or the area nearby.  They started an organization in 2011, “Save the Nature” to increase awareness of the fragile ecology on the lake, and also hosted activities to clean up villages and some of the pagodas on the lake.  Read the article about this venture that appeared in the Myanmar Times.  Read more...

When this group had done a few projects for “Save the Nature” they decided to create a business that would help the guests at Inle and also provide an opportunity for the next generation of guides to learn from them about how to be a great guide.  Their idea was this “Eleven Inle Travel Desk” - a cooperative of the currently licensed guides, and a place to help the tourist connect with guest houses, boats, and find advice on treks and bikes and all sorts of activities.

The Eleven Inle Travel Desk can arrange all of these services, and more, and also arrange for one of the guides in training to join you for free, so they can gain experience.  You will learn more about Inle Lake from them, and they will practice English and share their lives with you.
